The original Schlenkerla smoked beer is made in Bamberg, Franconia. The beer gets its smoky taste from the malt being kilned over a beechwood fire. The pub where the beer originates dates from 1405. Schlenkerla is recognized for making traditional Rauchbier (literally, "smoke beer"). A singular smoky taste comes from the use of smoked malt in the brew. The brewery's restaurant has been ranked among the top places in the world to have a beer by All About Beer magazine.
